A pro-touring 1967 Plymouth Barracuda. This is heavenly.

Love the Barracuda. One car I wish they won't revive in Barracuda or Cuda form.

Preface: It's a nice car. And the owner seems really cool.

But 15" wheels with Radial T/As? Carbed? Disc drum? Stock suspension?

An OD trans does not a pro-touring car make.

I knew it was a stretch, but I like how everything is kept original-looking.

He did a great job, there's no argument there. Car is probably tons of fun.

Looks like a fun, nice car, and the guy seems cool.

I think that's a subjective title. A manual trans with suspension and brakes geared more towards the handling side of things does make a pro-touring car in my opinion, even if it is period correct and not decked out with EFI and chrome-moly suspension.

So a stock '69 Z would be a pro touring car? I'm just sayin'... this is a nice car but it doesn't quite fit the archetype.

These would help . OE-looking, modern sizing. Also, OE suspension does not a PT car make.

Sure.
Pro-stock—————stock—-^———-pro-touring
It's pretty much just the spectrum of how you would modify a car for a particular type of performance gain. Sure, that barracuda may be about right at the arrow on that spectrum, but I don't really think that IRS retrofits and 18 inch wheels are necessary to use the term "pro-touring" when describing a particular build. I think if you were to add an OD trans and z-rated tires to an otherwise factory Z28 or Boss 302, you'd be squarely in pro-touring territory.

I, too, have a soft spot for that generation of 'Cudas, but I much prefer them in notchback form.

I prefer the fastback only because the notch can look a bit like a Corvair.

I guess we just have different views on the subject.

The way I see it you don't need to have a "named project" like the Mule, Twister, Maltidute, etc or have $4000 brakes and a $10,000 turbo engine, but there are some fundamental changes that need to be made. Starting with upgrades to the poor 60's suspensions that these cars have. Some of these cars didn't even come with sway bars! Stock my '69 Camaro had an 11/16ths bar. That's a 17mm bar for a 3400 lb V8 Camaro. Swapping to a 1 1/8 bar was like a shot of nitrous to the suspension.

A stock 60's car with an OD trans and Z rated tires is just another 60's car that gets better mileage with expensive rubber. Handling is improved very slightly if at all, which doesn't fit the theme.

JMHO of course. I like the discussion!

Hat tip to Chrysler to getting such great handling out of torsion bars.
